Red Dead Redemption 2 on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 has been delayed until autumn 2018.

A PC version – assuming one will be made – will presumably arrive later even than that.

Rockstar said the delay was due to the game being the first it has created from the ground up for the latest generation of consoles.

"We are very sorry for any disappointment this delay causes, but we are firm believers in delivering a game only when it is ready," it said.

"We are really excited to bring you more details about the game this summer [in the US, winter in Australia and New Zealand].

"In the meantime, please enjoy this selection of new screenshots from the world of Red Dead Redemption 2."

This is far from the first time Rockstar has delayed a game: Grand Theft Auto 5 was slated for a 2012 release before being pushed into late 2013 and the first Red Dead Redemption was also delayed several times.
