The Game Awards today announced the nominees for its third annual awards show, with Uncharted 4: A Thief's End leading the pack.

Uncharted 4 received eight nominations in six categories, while Inside, Overwatch, and Firewatch received five, and Doom, Titanfall 2, and Battlefield 1 each received four.

Nominees were selected from any game released between 24 November 2015 and 24 November 2016 by an international panel of judges from a variety of gaming and e-sports publications.

As usual, the awards show itself will include a range of early looks at upcoming games, but with more of an emphasis on substance and deep-dives compared to previous years' hype trains.

Show creator Geoff Keighley told Polygon he felt somewhat responsible for "this black hole of hype that the developers couldn't pull themselves out of," referring to his debut of No Man's Sky in 2013.

"There is a good moral of that story and it's part of what I'm trying to address this year; to have developers be more transparent about the state of their game."

The Game Awards will take place at Los Angeles' Microsoft Theatre at 3pm New Zealand time on December 2nd, and will be streamed online.
