Blizzard's anticipated multiplayer shooter Overwatch will launch without Competitive Play, director Jeff Kaplan has confirmed.
Though the system was included in the closed beta, Kaplan said in a forum post that community feedback pushed Blizzard to "rework the system and make it better."
"Our plan is to bring back a newly re-designed version of Competitive Play sometime after Overwatch launches."
Competitive Play includes ranked play and competition seasons, leaning towards Blizzard's place in the e-sports arena.
However, after its appearance in the beta, fan feedback suggested that the mode encouraged grinding and repetition, rather than skill.
Overwatch's open beta starts May 5th, and is already open for pre-order customers; the full game launches officially on May 24th, on new-gen consoles and PC.
