A new Battlefield game is in development, according to DICE development director Dan Vaderlind.

Vaderlind tweeted that "Now that we've shipped Battlefront and a part of the team continues to work on it, I am moving on to another project, the next Battlefield.''

The news should surprise no one, given that EA CFO Blake Jorgenson had already stated that the publisher's 2016's core shooter title would be "another Battlefield title."

Though Battlefield games typically release every two years (with Battlefield 3 in 2011 and 4 in 2013), 2015 was an anomaly in that Battlefield: Hardline released in the same year as Star Wars: Battlefront, both occupying similar shooter territory.

The new game will supposedly return to a military setting after Hardline's cops-and-robbers jaunt.

A bigger mystery is what core shooter EA will release in 2017, which could be another Battlefront, or more likely another Titanfall.
