Electronic Arts COO Peter Moore will soon take a new role in the company, as executive VP of the company's new Competitive Gaming Division.
The division is part of a push by EA to move into the increasingly lucrative eSports field.
Its core pillars include Competition, "to create highly-engaging competitive experiences;" Community, "to celebrate, connect and grow our community of players;" and Entertainment, "to develop live events and broadcasting that bring the spectacle of competition to millions of people around the world."
It will start by hosting competitions in FIFA, Madden NFL, Battlefield, "and more."
Moore was previously involved in events like the [i]FIFA[i] Interactive World Cup and the EA Sports Challenge Series.
Said EA CEO Andrew Wilson, "Peter’s personal passions for the player experience, sports and competition, make him a tremendous leader for this new division.”
EA's timing couldn't be better, as Riot just unveiled record-breaking viewer numbers for its League of Legends 2015 World Championship.
The championship was watched by 334 million people over its four weeks, averaging 4.2 million per game and reaching a peak concurrent viewership of 14 million, during the finals match.
Moore starts in his new position next year, joined by senior VP Todd Sitrin.
