Level-5 is currently in development on Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom, the sequel to its popular collaboration with famed animation house Studio Ghibli.

The sequel to the 2013 PS3 exclusive Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch, Revenant Kingdom takes players back inside a colourful fantasy world inspired by the studio behind films like My Neighbour Totoro and Spirited Away.

Its story follows a young boy going through a struggle to become King, meeting friends and enemies along the way.

Level-5's Akihiro Hino said the game "fulfills the ambitions [the studio] had after the first game's completion."

"You can expect deeper stories, rich in dramatic sequences you wouldn't have expected from the first game."

Gameplanet's Matt Burgess gave the original Ni No Kuni an 8.0 out of 10, praising its storytelling and unique "Ghibli magic."

While Studio Ghibli is not directly involved in Ni No Kuni II, Ghibli animator Yoshiyuki Momose is involved in character design, while the previous game's composer Joe Hisaishi is also returning.

Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom will release at an as-yet undisclosed time, exclusively on PS4.
