Metal Gear Solid V won an award for Best Action/Adventure Game at today's Game Awards, but director Hideo Kojima was nowhere to be seen.
Show producer Geoff Keighley shed some rare light on the situation after Big Boss voice actor Kiefer Sutherland accepted the award on Kojima's behalf.
It turns out that Konami's lawyers forbade Kojima from attending the ceremony, due to various clauses in his employment contract.
The response from the audience was one of palpable displeasure.
Partially in tribute to the director, Quiet's Theme from the popular game was performed live on stage following the award presentation.
