Police were called to eSports event Dreamhack Winter over the weekend thanks to an incident involving CounterStrike host Richard Lewis and Dota 2 player Jonathan "Loda" Berg.

Berg claims that Lewis strangled him backstage at the event, while Lewis says he was provoked when Berg "pushed his forehead into [his] face."

The incident began with a tweet from Lewis, a professional journalist, implying he had slept with CS:GO player Hiko's mother.

But the "proud mom" sign pictured in the tweet was actually made by Kelly Ong Xiao Wei, partner of Berg.

Wei and Berg challenged Lewis about the joke, with Berg and Lewis eventually meeting backstage.

It was there that the assault allegedly took place and the police were called to the scene.

Lewis says Berg "moved his head towards me until it was touching my face, so I grabbed him. It's not my proudest moment but I had a split second to make a decision."

Though he says he regrets the incident, he maintains that there "were failings on all sides," saying that "friendly trash talking is part of the camaraderie," and that he "will never be overly concerned about causing offence when [he expresses himself]."

Lewis is an eSports journalist at conservative media outlet Breitbart and an eSports adviser for the Game Awards.

No action has been taken by DreamHack or the Swedish authorities as of yet.
