Sony has sold 30.2 million PlayStation 4 consoles, as of November 22.

The company's press release proudly proclaims the console to boast "fastest and strongest growth in PlayStation hardware history."

It still has some ways to go to beat other significant records, though: the Nintendo Wii holds the title for fastest-selling console, moving 45 million units in approximately the same period, while the PS2 sold 155 million units in its unusually long lifespan.

Microsoft has not released Xbox One sales figures since 2014, but total sales are estimated to sit between 15 and 18 million.

This year's holiday season should make an interesting proving ground for the two consoles, given that both now have a number of prominent exclusives and occupy approximately the same price point

Nintendo's Wii U has sold ten million units since its November 2012 launch.
