Nintendo's next-generation NX console is "doomed" if it launches without significant third-party support, says an analyst.
Wedbush Morgan's Michael Pachter told Siftd that "if Nintendo gets the same level of support for NX that it got for the Wii U, it’s doomed before it launches."
"That's much, much more important than the price."
Ease of porting is an important factor in ensuring third-party support, says Pachter.
"If it's a whole different language, or requires a whole different programming scheme, or requires something to do with the GamePad where you’ve got the controller different the way Wii U works, it's doomed. No one’s going to support it."
Controllers that diverge significantly from the 16-button, two-stick industry standard make development of cross-platform games more difficult, as studios must design for multiple control methods.
Reports, however, have suggested that the Nintendo NX will be a set-top/handheld hybrid, which doesn't exactly sound standard.
Official details on the NX will emerge in 2016.
