EA Games is planning to join the open-world action fray with a new game from Assassin's Creed producer Jade Raymond.

The former Ubisoft Toronto head is "building an action genre for [EA] through a studio we're building out in Montreal," CFO Blake Jorgensen said at the UBS Global Technology Conference.

That studio is Motive, formed when Raymond joined EA earlier this year.

Jorgensen said the game will be "more open-world, more single-play versus multiplayer. It's not been an area that we've operated in."

His comment corroborates EA CEO Patrick Soderlund's earlier statement on the company's desire to move into AAA action games.

Whatever gets made will join other large story-driven EA games like Mass Effect: Andromeda, Visceral Games' untitled Star Wars game, and whatever new IP BioWare has been teasing.

Raymond and Motive's new game is likely still years away from formal announcement or release.
