Night Dive Studios is remaking classic sci-fi horror FPS System Shock for PC and console.
This remake is a separate game from the System Shock remaster Night Dive released earlier this year – it will be a much more extensive overhaul.
Night Dive CEO and founder Stephen Kick told Fast Company that he's been working with the game's original concept artist, Robert Waters, to bring the game to modern audiences.
"Seeing the difference between his artistic abilities back then compared to now, and his ability to reinterpret those ideas, it's just been really exciting for us," said Kick.
The 10-person Night Dive has acquired the full rights to the franchise, and a third entry is a possibility if the studio manages to scale up somewhat.
"To really do another game in that series is going to take resources and time and commitment that we don't have," said Night Dive head of business development Larry Kuperman.
"It's really not our core business."
Rather, at the moment the studio's core business is re-releases and restorations, and it has released more than 80 games including I Have no Mouth and I Must Scream, Strife, and The 7th Guest.
