Wildly ambitious superhero game Megaton Rainfall will hit PS4 and PC next year, with VR support on both platforms.

The brainchild of Spanish dev Alfonso del Cerro, the game is an open-world, first-person superhero sim with a playable area the size of the Earth.

Inspired by the original Superman movies, it gives players control of "an interdimensional, indestructible super being" tasked with stopping an alien invasion.

The player character cannot die, but cities can; players must protect cities from the alien hordes while avoiding collateral damage.

Every building is procedurally-generated and destructible, and players can fly anywhere at supersonic speeds - even outside the atmosphere.

Megaton Rainfall will launch on PlayStation 4 and PC next year, with support for PS VR and the Oculus Rift.
