Queer gaming/geek expo GX Australia has launched a Kickstarter to help fund its inaugural event next year.

The show originated as GaymerX in San Francisco in 2012, and offers gamers and geeks "a space to play, share their interests, and meet like-minded folks without fear of harassment or bullying because of who they are."

"And you don't need to be gay to participate — the more diversity, the better!"

The expo will feature discussion panels, a show floor, parties and events, and special guests including RPG writer Chris Avellone, YouTuber AussieGamerChick, and Fallout creator Tim Cain.

Funds raised on Kickstarter will add to existing sponsorship money, going towards paying for the venue, hosting guests of honour, and streaming and recording panels, among other costs.

Perks include a range of indie games from sponsor companies; tickets to the expo and other special events; and booth space on the show floor.

GX Australia will take place on February 27th and 28th, 2016, at Sydney's Australian Technology Park.
