Nintendo has posted its financial results for the six months ending September 30th, which show a mixture of wins and losses for the company.

Net sales increased by 19.1 percent over the same period last year, to US$1.69 billion, but profits dropped by 19.8 percent to US$95 million.

The company's expectations for the fiscal year as a whole see sales to reach a 3.7 percent increase on last year, with a 16.4 percent decrease in profit.

Sales figures included strong performances from titles like Splatoon, Super Mario Maker, and Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer selling 2.42m, 1.88m, and 2.02m copies respectively.

Amiibo have also continue to sell well, moving 10.6 million units since March and 21 million in the toys-to-life line's history.

3DS hardware sold 2.28 million units during the period, bringing its user base to 54.34 million; the Wii U sold 1.18 million in the same six months, bringing its total to 10.73 million.

By comparison, Sony estimates the PS4 player base to be "well over 25 million."

Nintendo is expected to release details of its next-generation NX console next year, which is speculated to replace both the 3DS handheld and Wii U set-top consoles.
