The studio behind cancelled Star Wars game Battle of the Sith Lords is actively prototyping a pitch to resuscitate the project.

Red Fly Studio's Dan Borth ran a Reddit AMA in which he outlined the original plans for the game as well as the studio's hopes for a relaunched version.

Battle of the Sith Lords, centring on Star Wars: Episode I villain Darth Maul, was in the preliminary prototyping phase in 2013.

The game would have followed Maul from "age 9 or 11 to right before Episode I," and "show what he went through to become a Sith. Showcase the torture the Emperor put him through."

It would have been an action/stealth game similar to the Arkham series, featuring a "reverse fear mechanic that [Red Fly] felt was pretty interesting."

At the time, George Lucas wanted Darth Maul to team up with Star Wars Legacy character Darth Talon, despite the two existing over 200 years apart in-universe.

Sith Lords was cancelled when Disney's acquisition of Lucasfilm resulted in the cancellation of all in-development Star Wars games.

But Borth says Red Fly still holds out hope that EA, the franchise's new publisher, might pick up the title.

"We have been burning a candle for this game since it was killed in hopes we can get it turned back on again. If that is to happen we need to approach EA with a demo that will impress them," said Borth.

Red Fly is currently working on such a demo, and Borth hopes to "show off stuff that we are currently working on" in a future AMA.
