Angry Birds developer Rovio has let 213 of its employees go, the company confirmed today.
The layoffs are part of a restructuring designed to jettison parts of the company that have proven unprofitable.
Rovio will now focus exclusively on games, media, and consumer products, downsizing its attractions business and cutting its learning division entirely.
The learning division, however, may end up reforming independently.
Following the phenomenal success of the Angry Birds games, Rovio expanded aggressively and - it turns out - prematurely, intending to be "the next Disney."
But the company has struggled to maintain momentum, as its new titles failed to catch on and its Angry Birds franchise suffered from stagnation.
Grown in Rovio's games business has slowed, and its consumer products business has declined, along with overall revenue.
The remaining 670 employees include the team working on The Angry Birds Movie, due May 20, 2016.
