Square Enix's 2015 Annual Report contains a telling paragraph about the company's future development plans.
Under the heading "The Way Forward," point number one is entitled "Revitalising Existing IPs," and involves the resuscitation of properties from earlier gaming generations.
One such property is Final Fantasy VII, currently being remade for the PlayStation 4.
The language used in the report, saying the company will "take an IP developed for earlier generations of game consoles and recreate it for the latest consoles," indicates more remakes are set to come.
A significant emphasis is placed on mobile, while VR and "other new platforms" are also mentioned.
To Square Enix's credit, the very next point on the agenda is "Creating New IPs," across "console games, smart device games, arcades, PC games, and comics."
The publisher has five mobile Final Fantasy titles on its upcoming slate, as well as console titans like Rise of the Tomb Raider, Just Cause 3, and Deus Ex: Mankind Divided.
