Valve's newly-launched Steam Hardware has run into issues that have resulted in backpedalling by the developer.

The Steam Link streaming box does not stream from Macs, and the Steam Controller does not support gamepad emulation on the platform either.

Valve issued an email apology to customers, saying updates would add full Steam Link streaming support and Steam Controller gamepad emulation "within a few weeks."

The publisher also gifted the Valve Complete Pack (containing all Valve games currently or ever to be released) to affected users.

Additionally, some games theoretically compatible with Linux-based SteamOS hardware cannot run on the systems.

Valve has pulled the offending titles' SteamOS compatibility tags from the Steam store.

As of publication time, the Steam Store listed 1563 game and software titles compatible with SteamOS.
