SyFy has canceled the Defiance television series, but its tie-in MMO will continue as normal, according to developer Trion Worlds.
The science-fiction show, helmed by former Caprica showrunner Kevin Murphy, lasted three seasons.
It tied in with the Defiance online game, where storylines and characters would cross over between the two mediums.
Trion Worlds told Polygon it saw the cancellation as "a fond farewell, in celebration of a successful three year run of a show that broke a lot of new ground and brought an incredible quality experience to its viewers."
"As for the game and its future, Defiance is Trion's IP and the game will continue exactly as before," said Trion Worlds CEO Scott Hartsman.
"[The game and the TV show] were always meant to be able to stand on their own, which is why the show was primarily set in St. Louis and the game in the SF Bay Area."
Defiance is free to play and available now on previous-gen consoles and PC.
