Valve will not introduce advertising to the Steam Store in any foreseeable future, says Valve's Erik Johnson.
In an interview with Gamespot, Johnson stated that Steam ads would serve neither users or advertisers.
"We don't see a case for [ads] ever getting user value... so we wouldn't do it. I don't think that those ever work, either. To take it a step further, I don't think anybody buys Doritos as a result of that."
Johnson added that due to the virtually guaranteed consumer fallout, "It would be a bad business decision, let alone just dumb."
Fellow Valve staffer Robin Walker chimed in that "ads don't serve any value to customers," but admitted that there is challenge in helping those customers sift through the six-thousand-plus Steam game catalogue.
The company's latest attempt at meeting that challenge was September 2014's Discovery Update, which Valve has said was a success.
