An official game based on the Friday the 13th film franchise and developed by some prominent figures has hit Kickstarter.

Originally a non-licensed game entitled Summer Camp, it was noticed by Friday the 13th producer Sean Cunningham and granted the license to the franchise.

Set at Camp Crystal Lake, Friday the 13th: The Video Game is an asymmetrical multiplayer game that puts players in control of either Jason Voorhees or one of seven teenage camp counsellors.

Jason will be as powerful as his film counterpart, with "a slew of abilities to terrify, harass and then brutally dispatch" the other players.

The counsellors will have to work together and use tools and the environment to take Jason down.

Original movie crew working on the game include producer Sean S. Cunningham; makeup effects wizard Tom Savini; four-time Jason Kane Hodder; and original composer Harry Manfredini.

The game is being developed by indie studio Gun, best known for its popular Breach & Clear games.

With a month left to go on its campaign, the Kickstarter has already scored $140,000 of its $700,000 goal, at time of publication.
