Trade union SAG-AFTRA now has the authority to call a strike over poor conditions for actors in video games, following a vote from its members.
The organisation "overwhelmingly" voted in favour of the strike, with 96.52% of its members indicating to the affirmative.
A 75% majority was required to authorise a strike.
SAG-AFTRA has been in negotiations with the video game industry since its prior agreement expired at the end of 2014.
Demands listed by the union on its website include performance bonuses for top-selling games, stunt pay for vocally strenuous recording sessions, the presence of stunt coordinators in motion capture sessions, and greater transparency on the context of work being done by actors.
If agreed to, conditions in the relatively new realm of video game acting stand to improve in regards to pay, safety, and quality of work alike.
Many prominent video game actors, including Mass Effect's Jennifer Hale and Metal Gear Solid's David Hayter, have lent their voices to the cause, using the hashtag #PerformanceMatters.
The union's members are not on strike yet, but with a potential strike as a bargaining chip, SAG-AFTRA will return to negotiations to attempt to resolve the issue.
