The creators of Burnout are teasing a spiritual successor to the beloved racing series.
Criterion Games co-founders Alex Ward and Fiona Sperry left the company in 2014 to form a new studio called Three Fields Entertainment.
In a series of tweets, Ward and Sperry revealed they are currently working on a multiplayer sports game, but that their next project would be a driving game.
Two things. Our first game is a multiplayer sports game. Coming Spring 2016. Then we make a driving game. RT and #ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster

They also tweeted that the driving game would be a spiritual successor with “lots and lots of crashing”.
What sort of driving game you ask? A spiritual successor. Speed. Traffic. And Crashing. Lots and lots of crashing. #ShinyRedSomething

The crashing comment is a strong indicator that the game will be a spiritual successor to the collision-heavy Burnout series. Even more revealing is the hashtag #shinyredsomething, which refers to the code name for the original Burnout game, Shiny Red Car.
Spiritual successor to which one though??? The second, the third or the fourth one?? #decisions

Three Fields' tweets suggest it is considering Burnout 2: Point of Impact, Burnout 3: Takedown and Burnout Revenge as inspiration for its spiritual successor.
