Several reports from around the web claim that Metal Gear Solid V is the last Metal Gear game.

According to GameBlog sources, "No new Metal Gear is actually being prepared at any level whatsoever. Not even in pre-production, or in the planning stage. Nothing."

The French site is also reporting that Konami’s worldwide technology director Julien Merceron is planning to leave the company, as he is frustrated with its lack of console-focused development.

Both of these reports have since been supported by Eurogamer and IGN – the latter of which confirmed the news with its own sources.

Merceron first joined Konami in 2013, and oversaw the use of the Fox Engine in Metal Gear Solid V.

If indeed there are to be no further Metal Gear games, Pro Evolution Soccer will be Konami’s only console gaming series still in active development.

Earlier this year, Konami president Hideki Hayakawa suggested that his company would have a mobile-first focus going forward.
