Nintendo has submitted a patent application for shoulder buttons on a controller that also act as scroll wheels.

These shoulder buttons, shown in the diagram below, are described in the patent as offering players a “higher degree of freedom.”

This could be the first glimpse at an element of Nintendo’s next console known currently as Project NX.

“We have no comment regarding this patent matter,” a Nintendo spokesperson said.
