Popular retro-style action platformer Shovel Knight is getting a free expansion that puts players in the boots of Plague Knight for a new adventure.

Shovel Knight: Plague of Shadows will appear on all platforms on September 17, and will contain a challenge mode, new objectives and enemies, new areas, new paths through classic levels, new bosses, and more.

"Join Plague Knight on his quest to overthrow the Order of No Quarter! Become the ultimate alchemist… and maybe find some romance, too" said developer Yacht Club Games.

"Use explosives, bomb jumps, and alchemy to blast your way through the game in a whole new way!"

The update will only be available to those who have beaten the game as Shovel Knight, but if you’ve lost your save progress or switched to a new platform Yacht Club Games will share a special code to unlock Plague Knight for you.

The expansion will be available for Linux, Mac, Nintendo 3DS, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PS Vita, Wii U, Windows PC, and Xbox One.
