Not only is Pikmin 4 in development, it's "very close to completion," according to Nintendo's Shigero Miyamoto.

Speaking to Eurogamer in a newly-released interview held in July, Miyamoto revealed the status of the plant-herding sequel.

"Pikmin teams are always working on the next one," said Miyamoto.

The project's existence was then corroborated by Nintendo, though it would only confirm "that Pikmin 4 is in development."

The previous Pikmin title, Pikmin 3, hit the Wii U two years ago, itself releasing nine years after Pikmin 2 landed on GameCube.

Given the timing, Pikmin 4 would seem to be another game being developed for Nintendo's mysterious NX console.
