92 percent of gamers own discs they don't play, according to a survey published by US retailer GameStop.

400 responders between ages 25 and 54 participated in the survey, which GameStop's research partner Survata says has a 4.79% margin of error.

30 percent of responders said they finished playing new games within a week, and 38 percent said they have up to 20 unplayed games in the house.

Coming from GameStop, which operates EB Games in Australia and New Zealand, the survey's press release is skewed unsurprisingly towards encouraging customers to bring their unplayed games in for trade.

Most interestingly, 40 percent of responders said they regretted buying games after being "caught up in the hype" - which the retailer helps generate in no small way through pre-orders.

GameStop reaped 45 percent of its profits in the most recent financial quarter from selling used games, thanks to profit margins on used games of 49.1%, compared to 22.6% on new games.
