A new Kickstarter competitor has launched, backed by prominent gaming figures and sporting unique investment features.

Unlike similar platforms like Kickstarter or IndieGoGo, Fig, formed by ex-Double Fine COO Justin Bailey, is entirely games-oriented.

Fig will only host projects approved by its advisory board, which include's Double Fine's Tim Schafer, inXile's Brian Fargo, and Obsidian's Feargus Urquhart.

The banner feature is that campaigns can offer traditional perks as well as equity investing for accredited investors - with "non-accredited investor" support coming soon.

Bailey said it was important for fans who are financially backing projects to have a stake in a project's success.

"[Oculus] sold to Facebook for 2 billion dollars, and [the backers] who were getting behind Oculus to make that possible, they didn’t see any of that," said Bailey. "It would seem like they should, since they had a pivotal role in that coming about.”

Fig's launch title is 2015 IGF Grand Prize winner Outer Wilds, an "astrophysics simulation, narrative adventure, and backpacking in space" game described as "Majora's Mask meets Apollo 13."

Future titles will include games from inXile, Double Fine, and Obsidian, as well as from independent developers.

Kickstarter still has no plans to introduce equity investment to its own mega-successful crowdfunding platform.
