Blizzard's latest trademark indicates the online game titan is increasing its investment into eSports.
Likely seeking to refortify its hold on the eSports market against competitors League of Legends, Dota 2, and Smite, the company this week trademarked the term "Compete".
The trademark is described in its documentation as “an online non-downloadable Internet-based system application featuring technology enabling users to organize and promote e-sports tournaments, to create and customize tournament brackets and ladders, track tournament progress, maintain related statistics, and post results”.
Blizzard itself has made no official comment on the trademark, which may or may not herald the birth of an actual service.
If launched, it is likely that Compete will work with games like Hearthstone, Heroes of the Storm, Starcraft 2, upcoming Overwatch, and potentially World of Warcraft PvP.
