A new movie based on Dungeons and Dragons is under development at Warner Bros., the studio announced this week.

David Johnson (Wrath of the Titans) has written the screenplay, while a quintet of producers including The Lego Movie's Roy Lee are on board as producers.

Said WB's Greg Silverman, "D&D has endless creative possibilities, giving our filmmakers immense opportunities to delight and thrill both fans and moviegoers new to the property."

When D&D was adapted for cinema previously, the films were met with near-universal dislike, sitting on 10% and 29% on Rotten Tomatoes, respectively.

Meanwhile, this project has already had a rocky start, coming after a two-year lawsuit over who owned the big-screen rights to the tabletop RPG.
