A new Battlefield game will be released in 2016, EA revealed at its first quarter earnings call today.
CFO Blake Jorgenson explained the company's plans: "What we have said is that our intention over the next couple of years is to have a first-person shooter as one of the core titles. This year, obviously, it's Star Wars Battlefront. Next year, it's another Battlefield title."
Jorgenson did not say whether the release would be a numbered instalment or a return to a subfranchise like Bad Company.
The last entry in the Battlefield series, Battlefield 4, was released in 2013 to positive reviews and online performance issues.
EA also reconfirmed its current slate of release dates, while discussing plans for its lucrative Star Wars license, which will capitalise on the various films being released in the coming years.
