The PS4 will receive an officially licensed media remote later this year from accessories company PDP.

It will control PS4s, TVs, set-top boxes and audio receivers, and feature PS4-specific buttons.

For playback of Blu-Rays, web streaming services, and now media files, a remote is frequently a far more appealing control option than a dual-stick controller.

Also more appealing is the battery life: six months from two AAA batteries, which comically outstrips the DualShock 4.

Though not officially announced, Amazon and GameStop listings indicate the remote will release in October for US$30.
