Survival FPS Rust now has female character models, which will be randomly assigned to players in the same way skin colour and penis size are in the game.

“The female model is in. But not actually,” wrote Facepunch Studios’ Craig Pearson in a blog update.

“We still have some stuff to work out, like making alternate clothing models for her, but if you’re an admin on a server you’ll be the female model.

“To clear up some confusion, when we it does go live you won’t get a choice of whether you’re female or male. We’re not ‘taking the choice away’ from you. You never had a choice.

“A man’s voice coming out of a woman’s body is no more weird than an 8 year-old boy’s voice coming out of a man’s body.”

The female models have been in the works for some time.

"I'm more interested in seeing what happens when we add the female model," Facepunch Studios founder Garry Newman (Garry's Mod) told Polygon last month.

"Whether women will get attacked more because they're perceived as weak, or whether they'll get attacked less because they're perceived as vulnerable. That stuff is interesting to me."

Also coming to the game via its next update: cosmetic items, Steam Inventory integration, wood and bone armour sets, and a free look mode.
