Shenmue 3 has set a new Kickstarter funding record.

The project raked in US$6.33m from 69,320 backers during its crowdfunding campaign, which came to a close over the weekend.

It was also the fastest to US$1m and US$2m.

The previous champion was Koji Igarashi's Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, which raised US$5.54m thanks to 64,867 backers.

Shenmue 3 crossed off 27 stretch goals on its way to the record-setting total, including Wii U and Vita versions, and the inclusion of local co-op, a roguelike dungeon, and an extra playable character.

The game was announced during Sony's E3 2015 press conference, and is expected to be available to purchase digitally for PC and PS4 at some point in 2017.
