Mojang has discontinued active development on Scrolls, the Minecraft developer has announced.

Servers for the card combat game will continue to run for at least one more year, and balance will continue to be tweaked, but no further content or features are planned.

Said the developer, "The launch of the Scrolls beta was a great success. Tens of thousands of players battled daily, and many of them remain active today. Unfortunately, the game has reached a point where it can no longer sustain continuous development."

The announcement comes scant weeks after the release of the game's latest major content patch, entitled "Echoes".

Ever in the shadow of Minecraft, Scrolls was the subject of a major naming-rights legal battle (and victory) with Bethesda, and like its more-famous cousin saw a protracted beta period in advance of its official release last year.

Scrolls can be played on Mac, PC, and tablets. For now.
