The Elder Scrolls Online creative director Paul Sage has quit Zenimax Online Studios, the studio confirmed.

He joins Gearbox Software as a creative director on an as yet unknown project, which could be the new Borderlands title the studio has been hiring for.

Sage's departure comes mere weeks after the console release of the game he was directing.

The Elder Scrolls Online had a troubled and bug-infested first year of release, resulting in the publisher dropping its subscription model in favour of a free-to-play/microtransaction one.

A Zenimax Online Studios spokesperson says the Creative Director role on the game will now be filled by its former Lead Content Designer Rich Lambert.
