Square Enix announced a followup to cult action RPG Nier at their E3 2015 presentation yesterday.
Currently under the working title Nier New Project, the game is being developed by director Yosuke Saito in association with Platinum Games.
The developers were quick to say that this game isn't a direct sequel to Nier.
It is said to blend the gameplay of the original Nier with Platinum Games' trademark action gameplay, featuring three playable characters.
Saito said in an interview, "A lot of people have this preconception that [Platinum Games titles are] hard to get into. We had many female fans of the first Nier, and we wanted to make an action game, but something that our female fans would really enjoy."
The original game was released for the PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2010 to mixed reviews and a fierce cult following.
Nier New Project is in development exclusively for the PS4 and for an undisclosed release date.
