From Software officially announced Dark Souls III for an early 2016 release during Microsoft's E3 conference today.

The announcement trailer features the series' trademark heavy atmosphere and decaying environments, along with a giant undead knight and the tagline "...now only embers remain."

Directed by series creator and Dark Souls / Bloodborne director Hidetaka Miyazaki, Dark Souls III will be the last game in the Dark Souls series.

The announcement comes after a series of rumours over the past weeks which softened the splash From likely wanted to make.

Splash or not, the game will release early next year for new-gen consoles and PC.
