Square Enix announced an HD remake of Final Fantasy VII today at Sony's E3 press conference.

The original PlayStation RPG became a classic on its release twenty years ago, and with every console release, fans have questioned whether it would be remade for the new generation.

Upon the reveal, the E3 crowd went wild – the remake that had long been considered wishful thinking is now set to be reality.

No details have been announced regarding the release date or platforms, but Sony says the remake will release "first on PS4".
