Thanks to new Twitch broadcasting rules, there won’t be any streams of games like upcoming controversial shooter Hatred.

In a blog post, Twitch has announced that it is not keen on players broadcasting games that have received an “Adults Only” rating from the United States’ Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB).

That outlaws Hatred, as well as uncut versions of Manhunt 2, Fahrenheit: Indigo Prophecy, Leisure Suit Larry: Magna Cum Laude, and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (which received an AO rating after the ‘Hot Coffee’ code was discovered).

However, ESRB Mature (i.e. cut) versions of Adults Only titles are permitted, such as Mature-rated versions of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and Fahrenheit: Indigo Prophecy.

Games rated 18+ by other rating systems are okay to stream, as long as they are not rated AO by the ESRB, and they don’t violate Twitch’s rules of conduct or terms and conditions.

“Our goal at Twitch is to create a safe, welcoming, inclusive community platform where everyone can feel comfortable and have fun,” the company said.

“From time to time, we update our Rules of Conduct (RoC) in pursuit of this goal and to match emerging issues in the video game industry.

“Previously, we made game-specific decisions about which games would and would not be available for broadcast – sometimes due to overtly sexual content, sometimes due to gratuitous violence,” it added.

“This is unsustainable and unclear, generating only further confusion among Twitch broadcasters. We would like to make this policy as transparent as possible. Simply put, AO games are not welcome on Twitch.”
