Sony acknowledges its first-party offering this year is somewhat lacking, but remains optimistic the PlayStation 4 will retain its market advantage.
As reported by Games Industry, at Sony's 2015 Investor Relations Day, president and global CEO Andrew House said his company was working hard to retain a strong third-party slate, but exclusives were harder to come by these days.
"Our first-party line-up is a little sparse this year, so I think this places even greater emphasis on getting good third-party support," he said.
"I will admit that [exclusives] are, in the current publishing landscape, few and far between… Given publishing dynamics and development costs, those are increasingly difficult to secure."
House also referred to the Vita and PS TV as “legacy platforms”, and expected declining returns from both in the US and Europe.
However, he still felt Sony had a competitive advantage, and it would look to retain it with the launch of Project Morpheus, continued cost reduction, and quality software.
