A group of veteran developers whose credits include BioShock and Dead Space are seeking cash for a pretty novel game idea that involves a blind protagonist.
Perception is being billed as first-person narrative horror adventure for PC, in which a young blind woman must solve mysteries and escape a deadly presence – all without the ability to see.
Fortunately Cassie – the game’s blind heroine – possesses extraordinary hearing and so can ‘see’ using echolocation. Every sound she makes creates a visual for the player.
Developer The Deep End is promising a deadly games of hide and seek with relentless enemies, mysteries, and time travel through which you will "exorcise your own nightmares".
The game’s creative director Bill Gardner spent 12 years at Irrational Games, over which time he designed levels such as BioShock’s “Welcome to Rapture” and “Fort Frolic”, and had a stint as design director on BioShock Infinite.
The Unreal Engine 4-powered Perception is expected to release on PC in June 2016.
At the time of writing, it had raised US$23,630 of its US$150,000 goal with 29 days remaining.
