A Kickstarter campaign from the man credited with revitalising the Castlevania franchise has raised more than half a million dollars in a single day.
Koji Igarashi’s Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night – which looks like a Castlevania game in all but name – has soared past its funding goal to US$600,000 in fewer than 24 hours.
Igarashi was the longest-serving producer on the Castlevania series, and played a large role in PlayStation classic Clastlevania: Symphony of the Night.
Bloodstained is described as “a gothic, exploration-focused action platformer”. It will feature RPG and crafting elements, and will release on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Windows PC in early 2017.
A second playable character will be added should the campaign hit US$700K, a nightmare difficulty mode will be added at US$800K, and voice acting from former Solid Snake David Hayter will be added at US$850K.
