A handful of former Infinity Ward developers have announced a new multiplayer FPS that looks to be a radical departure from Call of Duty.

According to Reload Studios, World War Toons is “a humorous first person shooter and tank combat game set in a whimsical, toon inspired world sure to bring smiles to all those that play”.

Toons will allow players to change infantry classes on the fly as they battle for supremacy as either a cunning Officer, a stalwart Soldier, or a rocket-launching Heavy.

Each character also has access to a flying tank, the features of which are determined by character class.

Toons is in development for both virtual reality and non-VR platforms at Reload’s LA studio.

“Our goal is to make something fun and accessible for everyone.” said executive producer Pete Blumel.

“We’re excited to be trying things that are still new to the medium. From its very inception, the team has strived to take full advantage of the amazing presence and sense of immersion offered by emerging virtual reality hardware.”
