The next RPG from French game studio Spiders is a post-apocalyptic offering called The Technomancer.

According to publisher Focus Home Interactive, The Technomancer is set on a cyberpunk version of Mars during the War of Water, and has the player inhabit the robe and space wizard hat of an aspiring Technomancer whose future is threatened by the secrets of his past.

“On the run from the Secret Police and confronted by the harsh realities of the Red Planet, you must undertake a quest that takes you through tribal communities, cities lost under the ice, and dystopian shanties sprawled across Mars' dusty embrace,” it said.

The Technomancer will offer “action-oriented combat gameplay”, four different skill trees, three different fighting styles. There will also be crafting, companion recruiting, relationship nurturing, and five different endings.

Focus Home is promising that dialogue will play a deep role in quests and change the story depending on the decisions you make.

The Technomancer is slated for a 2016 release for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

Spiders' last two games have seriously underwhelmed Gameplanet reviewers.

"While some aspects of Mars: War Logs are outstanding by any measure, it stumbles on the finer points of storytelling, character development, and overall polish," wrote Celia Renfrew in 2013.

Chris Brown didn't have anything better to say about Bound by Flame last year. "Spiders has again released a fundamentally flawed game that only shows very occasional hints of real brilliance," he wrote.
