A sequel to 2014's Need For Speed film is being planned by Electronic Arts and Transformers: Age of Extinction co-production company China Movie Channel.

The two companies are working to secure the rights to the film franchise from DreamWorks.

Variety reports that the film would be shot in China, and feature local actors in significant roles.

The first Need For Speed film was produced on a budget of US$66 million, and starred Breaking Bad's Aaron Paul. It was a flop with critics but a success with international movie-goers. Worldwide, Need For Speed grossed US$203 million, with China accounting for US$65 million of the total.

“We are excited to work with EA, one of the world’s most recognized creative companies,” said Yin Cao, chairman of China Movie Channel. “We are also delighted that much of ‘Need for Speed 2′ would be filmed in China, and we believe it will include much more Chinese talent and elements.”
