Sony has closed a deal to adapt Metal Gear Solid to the silver screen, reports Deadline.
The film will be written by Jay Basu and will be produced by Avi and Ari Arad, said the site. The project is being helmed by Michael De Luca.
The movie is still in the planning stages. There's no indication as to whether Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima is involved.
Kojima and Metal Gear Solid publisher Konami appear to have fallen out. Some commentators have already speculated that Konami has only recently sold the film rights to Sony Pictures.
Last week, reports claimed that Kojima and Konami would part ways after the completion of The Phantom Pain.
An anonymous source told Gamespot that some senior Kojima Productions staff are now contractors rather than full-time employees, and that they are expected to depart once Metal Gear Solid V is complete.
According to the source, “power struggles” between Kojima Productions and Konami were the catalyst for the changes, and some senior staff at the studio now have restricted access to corporate Internet, emails, and phones.
