Despite being listed on Amazon France late last year, ZombiU 2 never made it out of pre-production, said someone familiar with its development.
According to a podcast featuring Liam Robertson, the editor of Unseen64, a site that documents unreleased games, development on ZombiU 2 began in February 2013 but was soon discontinued.
Robertson said he'd seen one screenshot of the game. Ubisoft was keen to add cooperative survival horror gameplay and was "very adamant" about doing it "properly", said Robertson.
The idea was that players would have to take divergent paths though levels in order to stay true to the "survival aspect" of the game.
In local co-op, one player would be required to use the Pro controller, and one would use the Wii U GamePad.
Following the release of Watch Dogs on Wii U in November 2014, Ubisoft has decided it will no longer release mature games on Nintendo's platform.
